If you follow my twitter, you know that I have had the scare of my life this past week. I tweeted some symptoms I had witnessed of our 7 1/2 year old pug on Tuesday to tap into any helpful information. From there, I got a flood of worried friends asking about Presley's condition. I started mini-blogging our saga with Pres to keep everyone in the loop, but 140 characters isn't enough to explain. So here's the full (lengthy) story:

It started this past Tuesday, when our the baby had a seizure in the kitchen. Aaron and I were talking when he walked in between us, started circling in slow motion with his left ear to the ground, then went into a full-on convulsion. Not the kind where he's foaming and unconscious, it's the kind where his motor skills completely failed him - rapid eye twitching, unstable walking, severe head bobbing. The entire episode lasted 10 minutes, then he completely returned to normal.

We brought him to the vet the first thing the next morning. They held him the entire day for observation. Aaron called me around 3pm that the doctor is sending him home with seizure medication as a precaution and that it might have been a freak incident. I didn't feel completely comfortable with that and insisted to talk to the doctor face-to-face when I got off of work. I sat in a waiting room with Presley for about 20 minutes - he was pacing back and forth, crying and anxious. I thought about leaving when the doctor walked in. She explained how the observation went well and repeated everything Aaron had already told me. I mentioned his chronic ear infections and asked if that could have played a role. "No, that seems unlikely." She closed our meeting that her only concern is his age, in dogs 5yrs+ seizures can be an indication of a brain tumor - so if he has another within the month, we should worry. And right then, he seized. This time lasting 45 minutes.

He never recovered, so she gave him some valium and phenobarbital (seizure meds) and sent us on our way to the Emergency Room, where he would stay over night. Upon our arrival, the ER doctor reminded us of his age and the likeliness of a brain tumor.

We checked him out at 6am Thursday morning and transferred him back to the vet. He seemed unresponsive and walked as if he was constantly slipping. The Tech on duty told us this "drunk" behavior was from the medication. Presley cried all the way from the ER to the vet, where we dropped him off for more observation before we both headed to work. The doctor said his physical behavior is a reaction from his brain condition, not the medication. By this time, I am really shaken up, but there is nothing else for me to do but to focus on work. Although, I couldn't concentrate. I couldn't even eat, so I just worked through lunch. At 1pm, I noticed a voicemail from the vet - it's the Doctor. "He's not getting better, and his symptoms are worsening. I think you need to come in." I call the vet back. "The doctor has left for the day." "How is Presley?" "He's.. hold on.. He's not well, but 'stable'." My emotions rise to the surface of my skin and my eyes begin to water. One of my poor co-workers walked up to my desk to ask me a question about a project and saw my face. He asked if I was okay and I just broke down. So awkward. I look down 2 missed calls from Aaron and a text message that says "Call Me." I left work.

From there the roller coaster really takes off, Aaron had an emotional conversation with the doctor about the strong possibility of putting our puppy down, and as you can imagine, we were both frantic. We met up at the vet to talk with another doctor who is now handling his case. She tells us the chances of it being any other prognosis than a brain tumor, is unlikely, but possible. She is transferring us to an Emergency Hospital, almost 2 hours away. There he can be looked over by specialists in the morning, who can give him a more accurate prognosis. I asked her if we can take him home for the night. She agrees, because "we may only have a few days left with him." My heart sinks to my stomach. This is all happening so fast, I can't think. We brought him home, where shortly after he had a small seizure. We bring him straight to the Emergency Hospital.

Friday, the next morning, the Internal Medicine doctor talks to us about the 4 possibilities it could be: epilepsy, meningitis, vestibular disease or a brain tumor. Although the first two seem unlikely, it seems to boil down to the last two. They ran a CT scan (MRI) and a spinal tap...

Results: The CT Scan revealed evidence of Inner Ear Disease in his left middle ear (vestibular disease). His tympanic membrane is ruptured and not intact which then allowed for debris to get inside. They did find suspicious tissue on his ear canal that A. could be the source of the infection or B. cancer. A sample of that tissue was sent off and is being tested, results to follow tomorrow. His Tap reading also showed small signs of meningitis, results to follow tomorrow. Even though this is not great news, the best news from it is that... he has NO BRAIN TUMOR! We were able to have him discharged from Emergency early this morning. He walks wobbly with his head tilted and his eyes still rapidly twitch. He will be on steroid/antibiotics treatment for the next 4-6 weeks, but we may ultimately have to do surgery to have his entire inner ear removed.

I wanted to share his story with all of you, because there is a lesson learned. I had 3 doctors tell me with confidence that it's most likely a brain tumor, and that he didn't have long. Doctors are only human and can make mistakes, so always get a second, third or fourth opinion. Always go with your gut. You know your dog best. Thank you for reading + please keep Presley in your prayers that his symptoms are treatable and will not have to have the surgery. He's not in the clear as of yet. Thanks! :) xx

The new colors of fall are not limited to only a palette of grey or brown anymore, and I love it! These incredibly bright pants were from the Zara 2011 Fall collection. I actually wore this outfit to work, and the clever men in my office coined me "banana" all day. Oh, and "mustard". Boys.

I can't remember the last time I had as much fun as I did ringing in the New Year for 2012! I think it's because I have a lot to celebrate, and I know this New Year will be one of the best yet! So many things in the works... which is why I have been a little M.I.A. from the blog. Aside from the full-time gig, I've been keeping busy pursuing two business ventures - one a real-estate investment company with the bf. We've purchased our first fixer-upper, a mid 19th century gem in downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It has been more than exciting, and what a learning experience! The project is currently wrapping up and ready to rent out by February. Cannot wait to show you all before and after pics!

The second venture is a bigger surprise and one you my be more interested in.. but you will have to wait and see...

For those of you wondering what I wore NYE, I don't have any pics of my outfit (Of course rushing and forgot my camera!) Plan A was this BB Dakota dress but it looked awful on my body - no Spanx in this world could save that dress. So I wound up wearing plan B, my favorite blouse ever, a vintage pearled Neiman Marcus and leather tights, basically this outfit head-to-toe.

Hope everyone had a HAPPY HAPPY NEW YEAR! And, oh yeah, HAPPY 2ND BIRTHDAY, STUDIO SWAG!

Audubon Anthem

We don't really have seasons in Louisiana, so I'm still waiting for this cold winter I keep hearing about. Until then the weather is warm enough to wear shorts and take advantage of the outdoors. My bf and I enjoyed a relaxing, nostalgic afternoon at the Audubon Zoo, "and dey all ask'd for you.." (LOL a verse from a local song that everyone in New Orleans grew up singing, sort of the Audubon Anthem, hear it here.) One of my favorite memories at this zoo as a kid is the Roman Taffy Cart - which is still so freaking good! Here are a few of my favorite pics from the day:

Langford Market Blogger's Event

Remember when Target featured Missoni as a designer? How can we forget, right? We all lost our minds for a day rushing to the nearest store to try and grab what we could. Well, I was one of the unfortunates who didn't even get a sock out of that deal. The only thing I really wanted though was the black zig-zag pleated maxi skirt, which I did order, but later received an email that it too was out of stock. I was so bummed! Thankfully I found this vintage dress with the same pleats for a steal online at Market Publique! Absolutely adore the detail, and it's completely work appropriate too! I actually came straight from the office!

Langford Market in New Orleans was kind enough to invite me and several stylish bloggers to an exclusive event held at their French Quarter location. The ladies hosting the event were a dream and so accommodating, showering us with raspberry spritzers and cupcakes galore. The even took a moment out to share some styling tips for the upcoming season. During the event, we all split off into groups and participated in a styling challenge (which you can vote on your favorite outfit here.) Fun fun event, and I even left with a goodie that I can't wait to share with you guys in a later post!

So excited today to go to my dear friend Andrea's baby shower and celebrate her "little pumpkin" - so sweet! Being a HUGE Saints fan, sweet baby Dylan and his momma are the only reasons I would ever miss the second half! lol However, I was able to listen to the game on the drive in. ;) For good luck, I still wore black and gold in support of my team! I never know what to wear to baby showers, but I knew I was going to be in stylish company. The mom-to-be, who is probably the most fabulous person I've ever met, was decked out in the highest heels possible (go girl!) Oh, and ps. the colors worked, the Saints beat the Falcons!
Congrats to Andrea + Charlie on your bun in the oven, Dylan! I cannot send enough love to you both! xo ...

CHANEL Runway SS 2012

Paris Fashion week launched the 2012 Chanel runway which was designed by Zaha Hadid. (Check out the Architect Spotlight I did on her here.) Karl Lagerfeld enlisted the mega famous architect to enhance his collection's nautical concept and transform the Grand Palais for the Spring/Summer women’s collection. These two are far from strangers and have colloborated on several projects in the past including the Chanel Pavilon, seen in an older post here. When designing a fashion show, the signature of an architect is not to just design a runway, but to design a space. That is evident here as an ocean of models no longer walk in a singular formation, but instead strut through a purified landscape of white occupied by oversized sea creatures and coral. The dramatic scene was enhanced by iridescent drapes enclosing the performance. Truly theatrical, but in perfect harmony with the S/S collection, quintessential Chanel with a soft palette and sophisticated whimsy. It was hard to choose, but here are some of my favorite looks.

This Annie Griffin tunic is so ridiculously comfy. I love that you can dress it up as a blouse tucked in (see post below) or dress it down with some leggings. On this day, I ran some errands and grabbed lunch at Chelsea's Cafe where they have THE BEST fried green tomatoes. I'm trying to be better at adding some style to an otherwise casual day. Sweats are so tempting!

I hope everyone had a fabulous Halloween weekend! This was the first weekend of my life that I didn't dress up + join in on the festivities. Unfortunately, I was feeling a little under the weather and laid low.

New Orleans Fashion Week's Spring 2012 Collections walked down the runway last week at the incredibly beautiful Ogden Museum of Southern Art. The shows + events throughout the week made all the locals swell with pride. Of course none of it could have been possible with out the efforts of the Co-founders Andi Eaten + Nick Landry, the NOLA Fashion Council, and Sparkle Beetle Communications! This is the second Fashion Week they have brought to this city, and it just keeps getting better - the execution is beyond impressive! Ready for Season 3!

NOLA Fashion Week is dedicated to the development of the fashion industry in New Orleans and throughout the South.

NOLA Fashion Week is back for its second season! Building on the success of it's debut week in March 2011 (see here), NOLAFW is bringing us a weeklong series of events filled with educational workshops, a fashion market, and of course, the fashion shows!

The educational workshops have been revamped this season to include new subjects from

editorial styling and fashion illustration to textile dying and hatmaking, taught by industry insiders and

experts. You can buy your tickets here. (They're going fast!)

The fashion market will be a greater component this season to introduce the community to smaller

designers and boutiques. From 2:00 - 6:00 P.M. on Thursday and Friday, over 20 different artists,

designers and stores will have pop-up shops in the Ogden Museum where visitors can shop, support and meet local creatives.

The fashion shows will be featuring seven talented Southern designers which will present their Spring 2012 collection in the amazing Patrick F. Taylor library in the Ogden Museum and one will have a presentation at the beautiful Martine Chaisson Gallery (see here).

What I wore to one of my dear friend's birthday lunch uptown New Orleans. I bought these shoes for my birthday ensemble last month where I wore blue from head-to-toe in reference to my "birthday blues" (I don't want to be one of those people, but it really does get harder to celebrate the older you get!)
Anyhow, I'm absolutely in-love with the color. It gives this outfit the extra pop it needs.

I moved to Baton Rouge from New Orleans over 6 years ago, and I swear, I still feel like I'm in transition. They are two different worlds - no place on Earth is like NOLA. I haven't let myself become emotionally attached to the capital city, because I've always seen it as a place to get my degree and get out. Now that I'm out of school, and have committed to staying, I can drop my snobby attitude and enjoy all the little gems Baton Rouge has to offer.

Recently Baton Rouge received some good news - FAT COW, a locally owned + operated burger + salad joint, opened up shop! Great atmosphere and better food with a gourmet menu: Foie Gras + truffle oil burgers with Parmesean + Duck Fat fries? Yum!

Iris van Herpen - Escapism

If you don't know Dutch fashion designer Iris van Herpen, you should. Beyond talented. Her clothing is probably some of the most beautiful I've ever seen. This is a look into her Escapism couture collection which premiered during the haute couture week in Paris Spring Summer 2011. This is her second 3D printed fashion collection and collaboration with architect Daniel Wildrig, once a lead designer for Zaha Hadid. You can see there first collaboration Crystallization here. The 3D printed outfits are made out of polyamide through a selective laser sintering process at Materialise. The genius behind the prints is their solid, rigid structure that appears as delicate as lace. (Side note, the shoes in the collection were made by architect turned shoe-designer, Rem Koolhaas’ United Nude.)

New Orleans was feverishly buzzing due to the Saints opening game and that spirit was carried through to the event (hence my outfit's homage to my team's Black & Gold). Dallas Diary

For Labor Day weekend, my boyfriend and I met some of our best friends out in Dallas, Texas. Yee HAW! SO MUCH FUN!! I had the entire holiday weekend planned out in advance with museum hopping + architecture touring... Plans had to be adjusted, however, when I found out the LSU opening game against Oregon was going to be at the infamous Cowboy Stadium the same weekend. I'm a huge football fan + LSU alum, so I was thrilled when Aaron scored us all tickets! (Unfortunately for the hungover crew) I was still able to pack in a lot museum time the next day. :) Here's how the trip went down...

Lately I've been all work and no play. You guys are probably sick of me apologizing for the lack of posts, but I don't know how some of you can keep generating so many while juggling life! Kudos to you all - seriously - I'm jealous! Teach me!! lol Most days, by the time I make it home, the sun has long since retired and I break into routine - cook, shower, book, then bed.

Whomp whommmp.

This past week I've been getting home earlier than usual and thought I should blog what I wear to the office from time to time. Here are two outfits from the week (What is
interesting is how completely different I look in the two outfits - which to me shows that clothing really is an experience, that what you wear is in direct relation with how you feel.):

So what's been new?...

1.) My birthday was August 13th + Aaron's was the 12th. We celebrated with our closest friends and it was an amazing night! I wore blue from head-to-toe.

2.) Tanvi of "The Fabulous Life of Not-So-Rich and Infamous" included Studio Swag in her "FIVE-FABULOUS-FASHIONISTAS 2011" Post. Really really made me smile to be on that list! If you haven't checked out her blog - do it! She covers everything from fashion to fitness, cooking to personal advice. TY Tanvi for all the kind words!! Means a lot! xx

3.) Although my life has become some what of a routine, I do enjoy coming home after work to cook dinner. In fact, I really look forward to it, and I have become quite the chef these days (see my nye resolution). I made my first Gumbo and Jambalaya the other week. I should share recipes.

4.) My house has been on the market since I graduated. I'm trying to sell by owner which can be tricky to market, so it has been a bit slow. Although, I'm not in a particular rush to sell. The big news about that is that I will be designing my next house myself! I will keep you all posted on those updates. :))

5.) I've been invited by Saks Fifth Avenue to be a part of their blogger's lounge for NOLA's Fashion Night Out, 9.8.11. Details in a later post!

White Linen Night

Simple but sweet. In this heat, less is more.

Despite the smoldering temperature, New Orleanians can't resist the annual CAC's White Linen Night this past weekend. It's an epic block party of open-doored galleries, delicious food, ice cold drinks and roaring brass bands playing along Julia Street, the heart of the NOLA Arts District. I missed the annual Hot Air Balloon Festival in Baton Rouge, again, because it was scheduled the same night as White Linen. I have lived in the state's capital now for 7 years, but always choose New Orleans first. I still haven't completely adapted. NOLA culture is too good to shake. Here are a few pics I snapped throughout the night from my iphone:

Lace Architecture

I received a lot of emails asking about lace interpretations in architecture, especially after my last post. Like in fashion, architecture uses the "lace effect" as an overlay treatment to the facade and skin of the building. Because of advancements in technology and computer design, this type of application is even possible and readily used throughout the world. The lace-like facades allows light to licker through and unusual views inside-and-out.

OMA/AMO: prada men's SS 2012

The Italian fashion powerhouse, Prada, teams up with OMA/AMO for the design of their men's spring/summer 2012 collection runway. Once again, OMA rejects the linear orientation of the traditional catwalk and instead arranges 600 blue foam blocks, one for each guest, along a 1.5m by 1.5m grid. This arrangement allows the models to flow through the highly-organized crowd, following multiple choreographed routes to allow maximum visibility. This democratic layout allows the entire audience to become completely engaged and integral to the show, ultimately eliminating the elite "front row."

"Artificial grass covers the floor. Light is provided by 16 panels of 30 PAR lights each, vaguely resembling stadium lighting systems."

Simple Resort

A no fuss outfit + lazy hair = my perfect vacation attire. My favorite look is a monochrome outfit with a little pop of color, simple chic. I've been lusting over this purse for a while. I guess Aaron got the hint... and the best-boyfriend-award.. because there it was on my kitchen counter before my graduation. I feel like the price is justified because I will wear it forever. It's classic. On the opposite spectrum - this outfit cost me only 20 bucks! Forever 21 is the bomb.

These earrings were my mother's.

I have never been sunburned like this before! Shortly after this pictures were taken, my face started peeling like crazy. No lotion or aloe vera could save the disaster which is currently my forehead. Oh well. Lesson learned.

Slow Down

Architecture school is so intense that you never leave studio. People always ask me: why are you always in there? What is it that you are doing that you don't sleep? Well, there is a saying repeated around school, "The project is never finished even after it's due." We are constantly developing and tweaking our projects 'til the last minute, so every minute counts...

So, the best part of graduating is that I get my life back! For the past five years, I've always been go-go-go! with a jam-packed schedule between school and two jobs. I guess it's my nature though to stay busy, I did start a blog LOL. Frankly you guys, I'm exhausted. The past couple of weeks, I've giving myself time to just slow down - hence my month-long break from the blog. I'm ready to get balance back and soak in all the sweet things life has to offer, like a quiet picnic by the Lakes with my family.

As one chapter is finished, a new one begins. Life is good. :)

Architecture Grad

I can't believe it! I finally did it. I've finally crossed the stage and received my diploma!

As much as I've complained about the sleepless nights, impossible deadlines, and overwhelming stress... whew... I wouldn't have committed to it all if I didn't love it. I have learned so much in the past five years and have made lifelong friendships along the way. Very fortunate that this curriculum has presented and encouraged amazing opportunities to study abroad and travel the world. (It's not enough to just see a building in a book - I want to walk inside it.) Studying architecture has instilled a different perspective on how I see my surroundings, much different than I had before, and for that I am most grateful.

I have taken some time off from my blog.. preparing for my final project presentation, preparing for gradation, and finally preparing for the transition of student to professional. I am one of the lucky ones in this economy to accept a full-time position at an architecture firm immediately after school, and the one I had always wanted to work for, at that. I have a lot to look forward to.

Thank you all for supporting me along my journey and for keeping up with Studio Swag!

Dinner Date

Between architecture studio + work, I have no social life. Nada. Zip. It's actually pretty pathetic.. Thank god my graduation is only 3 weeks away!! So going out to dinner is a way to get a way.. and a chance to dress up. :) I dusted off this skirt from Limited that I bought six years ago. I've only worn it once before at my housewarming party, which is full-circle because my bf and I just put it on the market to sell. We have a couple looking at it this weekend, so fingers crossed!

One of my best friends, Kelby Floyd, said I look 16 in this picture and I have to agree! I seriously laugh every time I see it now. But hey, at this age, I'll take anything. ;)

The best part of my school's campus are the amazing oak trees that line our streets. The canopy of hanging branches offer an escape from the heat and my hectic schedule. Makes you want to curl up with a good book and hang out for a while.

I wore this maxi dress to school and layered it with a sweater. My studio is always ridiculously cold so you have to be prepared. Looking back at this outfit, I sort of look like a frumpy hobo, haha, but I still think it's cute comfortable!

MY CITY: My Starbucks Signature

So way back when, Refinery29.com, the ultimate go-to fashion website, threw a full-on contest in hopes to find the next big fashion blogger. Hundreds entered, including me.. and well.. I didn't make the cut. lol BUT after the finalists were announced, Refinery 29 offered me an opportunity to team with the mega brand Starbucks in promoting My Starbucks Signature. My task? Represent where I live from my point-of-view by listing four of my favorite hot spots around my city.

M2: Recycling of the Architectural Office

New York studio Milev Architects have designed this range of jewelry and clothing made from rubber bands. Called M2, the line is part of the firm’s Recycling of the Architectural Office collection made from office stationary, which the designers think will become redundant due to the use of computers.

As we move further along into the information era, we make assumptions that the future is a paperless office. I'm not sure how much I agree that rubberbands will become obsolete. As much as we incorporate computer design into our projects, we still need to print out the drawings. The same as with an ipad, it won't replace a book. The physicality is very important for our senses.

I think the concept of reinterpreting the use of a material is much more interesting.. and fun! Fun for fun sake. These jewelry pieces are very unusual and pretty. I would wear these in a heart beat! The necklaces are currently sold at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.

I love the framed art pieces as well.

Another Place and Time

Stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic the other day, I turned down a side street in hopes to get home faster. It didn't happen... but the scenic route was well worth it! I was pleasantly surprised and relieved to see a stretch of countryside with a sea of yellow flowers and scattered cows grazing in the distance. It felt like an escape to another place and time, which ultimately inspired this outfit - a little nod to the 70's. The faux fur wrap doesn't make any sense, but works for some reason. Sometimes outfits just come together that way. What do you think?

If you follow my twitter, you'll remember my excitement when my big box of Forever21 goodies came in. Like most of you, I took advantage from the site the day that they were offering 100% of their proceeds to disaster relief in Japan. They raised over $2 million that day alone. So fantastic! More on that here.

Taking a stroll through the French Quarter on a beautiful day. We munched on beignets, watched the street performers and took in some shopping. Days like this are hard to find around these parts, so you have to take full advantage of them when they come.

I never iron my linen shirts. Maybe it looks messy, but I think it adds a texture + seems more relaxed.

When I was little, I always wished I lived in New York City, anywhere but New Orleans. My father is originally from the Bronx, so when we would visit, I would dread coming back home to the South. It's funny how much you change as you get older, because with each year, I adore my city more and more and am so proud to be from where I am. Every time I see the St. Louis Cathedral, in the heart of the French Quarter, it grounds me back to my roots. It represents everything New Orleans to me and makes me oh so happy.

This past weekend, two of my dearest friends were married to each other inside the beloved cathedral. It was spectacular and such an honor to be invited.

Upon leaving the Cathedral, we were greeted by a brass band, and in true New Orleans fashion, we all second-lined to the reception on Royal Street - where we parade through the streets waiving white handkerchiefs in the air. It was truly a magical night + I wish them all the best!

This past week was the highly anticipated inaugural NOLA Fashion Week!

Since I live, work and go to school in Baton Rouge, an hour away from New Orleans, I missed out on more events than I would have liked to. Even though I came straight from the office and headed back to studio after to work some more (god I cannot wait to graduate), I was sure not to miss Creating a Compelling Voice, a discussion on national blogs and local fashion. The conversation was on everything from business tips to cheeky exchanges of blog name regrets. The panel of bloggers leading the discussion were incredibly relatable and offered great advice... and their style? Amazing. Check out their blogs:

As the Sun Sets

I absolutely love the color of this silk top from Zara. I was lucky to snap these photos just as the sun was setting, enhancing its golden color. The skirt is so playful, and the belt adds that extra needed pop.

I'm in front of my favorite building in downtown Baton Rouge, the Shaw Center for the Arts by Schwartz/Silver Architects. The sun-kissed channel-glass reflects light beautifully and it's seductive form is truly a one-of-a-kind. If you are wondering, the castle-like building seen in the pictures above is the Louisiana Old State Capital. Mark Twain loathed the sight of it, "It is pathetic that a whitewashed castle should ever have been built in this otherwise honorable place." Today, however, it is a state treasure and I think nicely complimented by the adjacent Shaw Center.

Today starts the kickoff of NOLA Fashion Week and I'm so excited! Unfortunately I can't make the events/parties until later on in the week, due to school and work... but I can't wait to share this event with you all through upcoming posts.

All the buzz around New Orleans right now is the upcoming NOLA FASHION WEEK (March 21-26). During The Gambit's CUE magazine photo shoot earlier this year, I had the opportunity to meet Rachael LaRoche, a fellow blogger and one of the founders of NOLAFW. When talking about the event, her enthusiasm was infectious and exciting! This Fashion Week is an opportunity to showcase the creative talents of our Southern based (or born) designers and to give the city of New Orleans the national recognition in fashion it deserves.

#LAistheNewLA is offering workshops to educate southern fashionistas about the business of fashion and beauty. The two-day event held during NOLAFW offers four class tracks hosted by industry insiders including designers, entrepreneurs and stylists. The event closes with a bloggers panel open to all workshop participants. If interested in attending any of the workshops or simply want to learn more about NOLAFW, check out Nola-FashionWeek. The organization will be donating $1 for every ticket purchased to the Tsunami/Earthquake Relief Fund. Check out previews of the collections to walk the runway at their official Tumblr site here.

Miyake 132.5

Issey Miyake's 132.5 collection is an experiment in how to develop a garment out of one piece of fabric, an approach that he deems a social responsibility for the material's environmental toll. "We used to have to pay to get materials," Miyake says. "In the twenty-first century, we will have to pay to get rid of them." The designer developed a polyester made of recycled PET drinking bottles, which helped reduce carbon emissions by 80% compared to traditional polyester production.

In efforts of finding the simplest solution to wrapping a three-dimensional form with a two-dimensional material, Miyake investigates a folding technique (a fascination he's developed since his 1993 "Pleats Please" collection.) Miyake enlisted Jun Mitani, an engineering professor, to help create origami forms using an algorithm. "My application develops the 3-D model and the 2-D pattern at the same time, " Mitani explains. "The flattened patterns do not look wearable even to me, " Mitani says. "I think this is Miyake's magic."

The team settled on ten patterns that would lend themselves to clothing shapes, which can be seen in the collection. Next month, Miyake will release a folding lamp using the same technique.

I just want to give a moment of prayer for the thousands who have lost their lives in the earthquake/tsunami that has struck Japan's coast. I have walked around with a heavy heart since first witnessing the devastation, as we all have. I hold Japan very close to my heart as it is my birthplace and where I grew up as a kid. The destruction and ravaged landscape is beyond and hard to imagine.

Although daunting, I believe in the nation's resiliency. As we go on with our daily lives here in the states and else where, we must not forget the battle Japan faces in these early months and for years to come.

Happy Pardi Gras!

Some of you may not know, but most New Orleanians leave their Christmas trees up through Mardi Gras and just change out the ornaments for the season. Yesterday for Lundi Gras, my mom through a party, and this was her tree. It literally looks like Mardi Gras threw-up all over it, but the more ridiculous the better ;)

Originally I am from New Orleans, but have been living in Baton Rouge for the past couple of years for school. Even though they are only an hour apart, it sometimes feels like they are worlds away. For instance, I actually had to go into work today, whereas in Nola, the city is completely shut down. This past weekend while in town for parades, my bf and I ate at Mulate's where the server asked if we wanted to-go cups for our beer. My bf didn't know why I was so surprised since we both grew up there, but sometimes I forget how unique our city actually is. lol

Just wanted to share a few pics of NEW ORLEANS in the spirit of Carnival Season...

My first job ever when I was 14 was at Randazzo's King Cake Bakery. I swear to you they are THE best.

Even though you may not celebrate it where you live, it's just about letting loose + enjoying life. So hope you are able to take some time out of your day to get in the spirit! Even if it is for a little bit! ;) Cheers!

I wore this dress as a fitted top to compliment the volume in the balloon shorts. The loose fitting shorts allowed me to bunch and conceal the dress underneath without compromising the shape.

Remember this Christmas Wish List? I guess he got the message ;)

Today was my last day of school before Mardi Gras break. Whew! Finally get to take a short breather from studio and celebrate the carnival season! Much needed.

Shark Week

The past week has been bitter cold + wet. Finally a day of sunshine came through, the temperature warmed up and I was able to run errands... comfortably. Speaking of which, I'm wearing flats!! I ALWAYS wear high heels + vowed to never stop - I would wear heels to the gym if I could. I don't know what has gotten into me, must be old age. :P

The packaging is some of the prettiest I've ever seen.

Thank you so much to Dana and the team at Wantedshoes.com for being so generous and gifting STUDIO SWAG a pair of boots from their site. Wantedshoes.com invited select bloggers to enter in their YOUTUBE challenge. The objective was simple: take your gifted pair of Wanted Shoes, pick a theme from the list provided, use pictures and video to create a youtube clip.

My theme was From Day to Night. I wanted to incorporate two outfits to show the versatility in the boots. And if you like the boots I'm wearing, you can find them here.

After the photoshoot wrapped up at Fair Folks & a Goat, we lingered around a little longer to take extra pictures. The place is incredible! How could you not want to take advantage of the scenery? Anthony Mazzei, co-founder and Pennsylvania native, was very generous to let us stick around longer than expected. Juley, from Swank Heights, says it best that he already "has southern hospitality down pat." Fair Folks & a Goat, nestled in the French Quarter, is a brilliant concept - art gallery/retail/event venue/bed and breakfast and the list goes on. The building is a double shotgun house and is restored architecture at its best. If ever passing through New Orleans, I highly recommend you stay for the ultimate experience - fun, fresh while mainting the N'awlins flavor.

(Live WWL interview with myself, Rachael and Juley)

The three of us were invited to do a segment on the local New Orleans News to talk about our blogs and the recent photoshoot we took with CUE magazine.

It was definitely wild! And still can't believe we made the news!

I cringe every time I see it, but it's too cool to not post!

I had just flew into New Orleans the night before the broadcast from Isla Mujeres, Mexico (where I attended a best friend's bachelorette party.. pics will be up shortly..) I had relied on my boyfriend to meet me the morning of with a bag full of clothes and accessories that I had specifically packed for this interview. So what happens? He shows up with all the reject outfits that were hanging on the closet door! To say it felt wrong walking around in thigh-high boots at 7am in the French Quarter is an understatement. But in the end, no sweat, it all worked out and was so much fun!! So, I guess I will have to forgive him. ;)

After the segment, the 3 of us decided to grab a cup of joe at Satsuma, a near-by coffee shop, to discuss future collaborations and the upcoming NOLA Fashion Week. It was the first time we saw the printed issue of The Gambit's February issue of CUE! We were so excited!

Some behind the scenes photos from a recent photoshoot for The Gambit, the premier magazine of New Orleans society. (If you follow my twitter, this was the good news I was talking about it!) Recently the magazine invited three fashion bloggers from the area to do a photoshoot at the incredible Fair Folks and a Goat, and I was so honored to be chosen.

Juley: I'm sure you all know the beautiful Juley, the pioneer of all NOLA fashion blogs. A little Studio Swag trivia... Ms. Swank Heights and I go way back! She actually gave me the confidence to start my own blog and mentored me through it. I owe her all of the credit, because without her, this blog may have never existed.

Rachael: This shoot was my first time meeting Rachael, and she is the kind of girl that you meet for the first time and instantly feel like you could be best friends with. Visible and Invisible

Building Fashion, an initiative that pairs emergent fashion designers with young architects, along with PIN-UP design magazine recently unveiled the Siki Im/Leong Leong concept store, the final installation of five projects celebrating cutting edge design in New York City. The instillation is temporarily stationed next to the new High Line 23 (HL23). Leong Leong competed in a nationwide competition to collaborate with Siki Im, the architect turned fashion designer. Siki's clothing is embedded beneath a layer of foam, 'reinforcing the dichotomy of two environments - public and private, visible and invisible'. Like OMA's Prada store, this concept store challenges how we experience retail through architecture.

Siki Im was classically trained at the prestigious Oxford School of Architecture. Having worked as in architect in various cities around the world, he moved to NYC in 2001 where he worked for the progressive architecture firm, Architectonics. Numerous projects later he broke away from architecture to move into fashion, becoming the Senior Designer for Karl Lagerfeld and Helmut Lang. Now on his own men's line, he utilizes his experiences in architecture, furniture, graphics, art and music, manifesting it all into fabrics and shapes.

In a recent interview in The New York Times, Siki Im was asked..

Q. It seems like a lot of architects switch to fashion. Why is that?

A. Honestly, boredom. A building can take forever to go up - there are so many variables that can cause delays. Fashion is a lot more immediate and tactile and emotional. I actually had to learn how to be softer to do fashion, to really ask myself, "Does it feel right?" instead of just spell-checking the concept. And fashion people love architects. I think they think they're intellectual.
